State Traffic School |
Some individuals charged with minor traffic infractions are eligible to attend State Traffic School. In order to qualify, you must not have attended State Traffic School within one year prior to the requested referral period. The benefits of attending State Traffic School include not having points assessed against your driving record for the violation for which you are attending, as well as other possible benefits. State Traffic School is available only to those individuals involved in minor offenses such as speeding of less than 20 miles per hour over the stated limit, as well as some other minor moving traffic violations. It is not available for any alcohol related offenses, nor for offenses involving license status.
If you feel that you are eligible to attend State Traffic School, it is your responsibility to request State Traffic School in court. My Assistant County Attorney's and I will do our best to recommend traffic school if you are eligible, but ultimately this responsibility rests on the individual charged with the traffic offense.
Please understand that, in any event, court costs will be assessed. Court costs are mandatory by law and that determination is not made by the County Attorney. The fine for the actual speeding charge, however, will not be assessed if a referral is made to State Traffic School. See the Division of Driver Licensing State Traffic School for additional information.
Kentucky Point System - The Kentucky Point System identifies individuals that may be habitually negligent drivers. Under the Point System, a driver starts with no points, but accumulates points for various offenses. Upon the accumulation of 12 (7 if under age eighteen) or more points within a two year period, a driver's privilege to operate a motor vehicle may be suspended. Individuals are given an opportunity to meet with a hearing officer prior to any possible suspension. For more information about Kentucky's Point system click here.
