Pat has been engaged in private practice of law in Campbell County since 1980, with an emphasis in probate and domestic-relations law. He served as the Campbell County Master Commissioner from 1984 to 2008. Since 2011, he has served as an Assistant Campbell County Attorney.
Pat, who lives in Melbourne, is married to Charlotte Ritter Walsh and they have two children, Kate and Megan, and one grandchild, Ella. He has worked as a volunteer at Parish Kitchen in Covington since 1998.
